Nature Journal, and pencils
Braille slate and stylus
(Tactile) drawing paper

Instructions:
Step 1. Choose a Location: You can undertake this immersive walk in any outdoor setting you feel safe and comfortable in. If you have an exploration partner, decide on a location together.
Step 2. Preparation: Stand still, take a deep breath in, and relax. If you feel comfortable in your surroundings, close your eyes and focus on what you feel, hear, and smell. Slowly take in the sensations that surround you.
Step 2. Begin the Silent Walk:
Slowly open your eyes and start walking silently. As you walk, pay attention to each step. How does the ground feel under your feet? Is it soft, hard, or uneven?
If you have low or no vision, use your sense of touch to guide you.
Step 3. Smell the World: As you continue walking, slowly inhale through your nose, paying attention to the scents of the environment. Can you smell flowers, trees, or the earth? What other scents do you detect?
Step 4. Guided Touch: As you walk, use your sense of touch to explore the textures in your surroundings. Gently run your fingers over nearby objects. Pause if you want to spend more time exploring something that sparks your interest.
Step 6. Silent Listening:
Listen carefully to the sounds that surround you. Pay attention to close and distant sounds.
If you're deaf or hard of hearing, focus on touch. Feel the textures, notice vibrations, or sense movements. What can you discover about your environment through your unique perspective?
Step 7. Sight or Imagination:
While walking, look around and notice the colours, shapes, and patterns.
If you have low or no vision, use your imagination to create a picture of the surroundings based on what you touch, smell, and hear while walking.
Step 8. Create a Record: Now your silent walk is complete, find a comfortable spot to sit quietly and take some time to document your thoughts and sensory discoveries by writing or sketching your observations in your Nature Journal, braille slate, or on (tactile) drawing paper. This way, when you want to revisit the specifics of your investigation, you'll have this document as a handy reference.
Step 9. Collaborative Discoveries: If you collaborated with an exploration partner, share and discuss your discoveries. Include this information in your Nature Journal or on your braille slate, as well as any sensory observations made throughout the walk.
Step 10. Questions: Write the answers to the following questions in your Nature Journal or braille slate.
What new things did you discover about your surroundings using your senses?
How did the absence of spoken words affect your awareness of your surroundings?
Did you feel more connected to the environment through silence? How?
Were there moments when you felt challenged to remain silent? Describe those instances.
How did collaborating with an exploration partner affect your silent walk experience?
Step 11. Share Your Silent Walk: Share your silent walk with family, friends, and others important to you! Your shared experience may encourage them to embark on a silent journey of discovery.
Conclusion: In this silent sensory walk adventure, you discovered new ways to interact with your surroundings while learning new things along the way. Happy adventuring, young Explorer!
